What Is Creamed Honey? (And Why We Call It Iced Honey)

If you've ever picked up a pouch of our iced honey and wondered what it is, you're not alone. Iced honey is simply our name for creamed honey, which is also known as whipped honey or honey butter. Here's what makes it different and how to use it.

What is creamed honey?

All raw honey crystallizes naturally over time. Left on its own, it forms large, crunchy crystals. Creamed honey is honey that is crystallized in a controlled way, so the crystals stay tiny. The result is thick, smooth and spreadable, like soft butter, and it won't drip off your toast.

Is creamed honey real honey?

Yes. Creamed honey is 100% honey. Ours is made with unpasteurized Canadian honey with no additives or preservatives. Our flavoured iced honeys have pure spices blended in, and that's it.

Creamed honey vs liquid honey

  • Texture: creamed honey is thick and spreadable; liquid honey pours.
  • Mess: creamed honey stays on your knife and your toast.
  • Flavour: the same honey flavour, with a rich, mellow mouthfeel.
  • Uses: both stir into tea and coffee. Creamed honey is the better choice for spreading.

How to use creamed honey

  • Spread on toast, bagels, crumpets or warm biscuits
  • Stir into coffee, tea or hot chocolate
  • Serve on a cheese board with apples and aged cheddar
  • Top oatmeal, pancakes or baked apples

How to store creamed honey

Keep it at room temperature with the cap closed. If your kitchen is very warm it may soften a little, and in a cold room it will firm up. Both are normal.
